my first beer from these guys, who i dont think i have heard of before now, a collaboration with grains of wrath who i certainly know a little bit, a neat beer, cool find on tap in idaho, seeing a fair few new breweries showing up in recent months for the first time, way cool, this town must be booming? they call this a midwest ipa, not totally sure what that means, targeting a two hearted or a goose island or something? this does seem familiar, golden to brassy colored with immaculate clarity, good shine, and a high inch plus of fizzy soda looking white head, very tidy looking brew with just a bit of malt color on it. it smells like high alpha c type hops and a simple light crystal biscuity type malt, very subtle not quite neutral yeast character that adds something pleasant, a little pine and grass, fresh but not dramatic or super dynamic, clean though, balanced, no frills here at all, and i dont miss them, simplicity at its finest. the flavor again is bold but familiar, early onset bitterness driving most of the way, not harsh at all though and certainly not overdone there. hints of baked bread, green tea, elderflower or jasmine or something lightening it, melon rind, orange pith, and straw, fresh as can be with great mineral character drying it out at the end, just the right amount of grain support, and high drinkability, even if its not a super striking take on the style in terms of the hop complexion or anything, its very well made, no flaws to hide, nowhere to hide them, pleasant drinker overall thats well carbonated and warms up well too. i look forward to trying more from these guys as i encounter them!
