This style was invented back in the 90s originally called Cascadian dark ale. What you can expect is dark beer with pronounced hop bitterness and character. This brew used a dehusked dark grain to eliminate the harshness of dark grains yet imparting those flavors.

On tap at Sabatinis in Exeter pa this lunchtime.
Darkest brown body with a decent off white head. Attractive scattered lacing. Aroma is mildly of floral hop, slightly stronger of roasted malt. On tasting, hop presence initially, then changes to a roasted malt which lasts throughout the finish.
Overall, the attempt to minimize the roast bitterness is only partly successful, but still a decent lunchtime drink.
