I visited Top Down a couple days ago while down in the Sumner area. It’s a relatively new brewery in a nice new building, and so is clean and new inside with a pretty industrial, though welcoming, vibe. The equipment is all out there behind the bar and sharing space with the taproom: the bar seating and service area even has half a dozen or so horizontal serving tanks mounted over your head — pretty cool!
They had 10 beers on tap while I was there, with 6 flagship beers and 4 rotators. Flagships included Pilsner, hefeweizen, pale ale, IPA, amber, and a stout; rotators were a helles lager, belgian tripel, double IPA, and a collab BBA double IPA. They also had a whole menu of blends, where they blend their flagships in certain proportions to yield a “brown ale”, “black IPA”, or “black & tan”. I have only seen this concept executed like this a couple other places — it’s neat. Quality of the beers was not too bad, although I think reflects the brewery’s relative youth.
Service up at the bar was really friendly and knowledgeable. I’d definitely stop in again if I were to find myself down Sumner way sometime in the future.
