they menu calls this an "ultra" ipa, not sure what they mean by that, its not like a michelob ultra being low calorie it doesnt seem, its a full flavored and body ipa, but its also not like, mega or super or anything, so not really sure what that moniker is all about, but its a fine ipa, bitter but balanced, well hopped, and true to style without really being all that interesting. its unfiltered looking, a slightly rich honey color with light hazy and an average white head, short lived, looks bright still in the glass. this has a bit of malt to it, but its basic, pale two row type, maybe a pinch of a honey type or lighter crystal, but its minimal yet hearty in the way that the beer is balanced, fresh, and the hops are well supported, but its on the dry side, out of the way in flavor, and more a factor in the texture for me, a fine base for this. the hops are familiar and this is kind of classic, more late kettle character than dry hopped energy to me, lacking that pungent aromatic intensity and also sort of muted in the taste, not really coming on until later. pink grapefruit and its zest and pith, dried lawn clippings, some late sticky dankness, decently robust bitterness and obvious freshness to me. its a pleasant drinker but again a little amateurish on the ferment, like several of them were in here, which holds this back, but its sort of timeless, appealing because its fresh ipa, but also kind of lacking a soul. a bit safe, not ultra really in any way to me, but tasty overall and probably destined to improve in future batches...
