a pleasant coffee cream ale that is quite a bit better than its blueberry sibling, seems like a decent bit of starting with a base beer and splitting it off into different things, and they appear to be playing around with this sweeter richer cream ale base of late. like the blueberry one, the lactose is unnecessary in this one too, enough sweetness there without it, and it doesnt really make it feel creamy, it just slows it down. the best part of this is the coffee, which despite not having too big an impact on color (this is just slightly reddish from the coffee), is rather robust in here, with nuances of dry cocoa, homemade soft caramel, and dark bread, all of which add a lot of depth to the base beer. subtle vanilla and even raisin as it warms, breakfasty with a sort of pancake or waffle aspect to the malt, and the coffee does balance the sweetness a little bit, although its not real roasty and bitter, lighter than that, almond to me as it warms, baking chocolate, leather too, really layered and good. i wish it were drier overall, the base beer seems to be forcing that dessert vibe but its not needed, a shame, because this is good enough to want to drink a bunch of it save for the residual sugar. even with that, it was one of the better overall beers we had in here, and fully a step better than the blueberry edition. nicely done with the coffee, must be cold brew added in, no acid at all to it, so this stays nice and smooth. good stuff.
