this is one of the best beers i had in here, and i drank a fair few! a big bitter roasty no frills stout, on the edge of being exceptional, save for a little weirdness in the ferment, like a slightly stressed aspect exists in a lot of their beers, maybe cool things down a bit, maybe oxygenate a little more thoroughly, not totally sure whats up, but its consistent in a number of their ales. that said though, this still hits for me, deep roasted barley character all though it, intentionally robust and bitter, well hopped too, fully complimentary and that hits at a slightly different moment, so there is some movement to this, and it warms up nicely. ashy without being burnt if thats possible, dark chocolate in that unsweetened organic sense, and there is a freshness that stands out to me in this beyond it just being a little hoppy, not something i often notice in this style, but it flatters this and should be mentioned. just enough balance from the other grains for this to not seem aggressive, and its simple to me overall in a good way. smooth and without a ton of body, pretty fast finishing for how roasty it is, well carbonated too so it feels pretty lively. clean up the ferment even a little and this is a banger. love the name, solid recipe, well on its way...
