they call this a hazy ipa, but it really isnt very hazy, maybe unfiltered looking, but without the pillowy starchy cloudy character from grains beyond barley that i think most of us have come to expect from the style. that doesnt make it a bad beer though, its malty still, just in a more conventional way, and its hoppy without being bitter or anything, which many hazy ones also do, so its close in a number of respects, and i actually dont mind the cleaner mouthfeel. this is also one of their more neutral and professional fermentations of any of the beers i had here, less of the issues some of the others suffer from, so could be a sign of progress in that regard. a bit of color here, not as pale as most hazy types are, and honestly not that far from clear, with a decent white head on it and a real fresh nose thats slightly green to me. sweet orange and tangerine to the hops in both aroma and flavor, peppy and fresh, tied up with some vegetal character but the fruitiness pushes through, and there is nice minerality underneath, light copper character too, but it works. lemongrass, late pine, and a wash of pineapple too, but i wouldnt put this in the juicy or tropical range. almost drinks like a pale ale to me, with some back and forth with the malt and a held back bitterness, doesnt really do the normal hazy thing, but its decent anyway. a bit of grapefruit, key lime, and a slight ester to it from someplace, certainly citrus forward as the name implies. this is a few tweaks from being what it seems to want to be, but when considered as a work in progress, its a reasonably enjoyable pour...
