650ml bottle poured into tulip 2/7/14
A clear bright light yellow, just a few very slow small bubbles but they pump out a short lived two finger foam that leaves a few tiny spots of lace
S sweet grains, white grapes, spicy hops, faint lemon, a little soapy, hay, and crackers
T more spice then the nose, more hay, less soap and white grapes, a little more of what I liked on the nose and a little less of what I didn't
M about what I expect from the style, light bodied, a mild bitter bite, bubbles give it some life, spicy hops and grass linger on the finish
O decent brew that's easy enough to drink, not a bad example of the style, well suited for this hot Summer evening
worth a try but don't expect to be blown away, a step in the right direction for Nelson but still a ways to go before I'll be excited for a new release

650ml bottle - I guess being a hooligan in sleepy Nelson, BC involves owning/riding/revving a retro motorcycle.
This beer pours a clear, bright medium golden yellow colour, with one finger of loosely foamy and bubbly dirty white head, which leaves one broad swath of dripping paint lace around the glass as things evenly subside.
It smells of bready, doughy, and slightly biscuity pale malt, white pepper, a soft flinty mineral character, and earthy, leafy, and surprisingly spicy hops. The taste is gritty, crackery, and bready malt, a touch of hard toffee caramel sweetness, muddled, but tart orchard fruitiness, ethereal table-top cracked peppercorns, fading hard water notes, and plain leafy, earthy hops.
The bubbles are decently peppy, in a slowly simmering sort of way, the body an adequate medium weight, and mostly smooth, like mineral water. It finishes a tad off-dry, the grainy malt putting up a mild last resort stink, alongside some lingering spice and still rather old-world hops.
A decent enough German-style pilsner, the hops rather restrained, but sturdy and supportive all the same. Easy to drink and balanced such that another glug is the first thing that comes to mind upon finishing the previous. Nothing crazy or really out there, just a pleasant, somewhat summery quaffer, even if you don't spend your weekends bashing other soccer fans over the head - relevant!
