Picked this up from Joe Canal's in Woodbridge recently, as I hadn't had anything from Tonewood in quite some time! I expected this to be a typical, enjoyable, straightforward IPA and for the most part, that's exactly what this was as it was quite dank and got much better once it fully warmed up.
The pour to this was nice, as this liquid had a hazy, golden hue to it that was topped off with plenty of foam that settled evenly. Nice, deep and layered rings of lacing remained as I worked my way through this as each down bled down to the next. A good amount of strawberry patch, funky hops, gooseberry, and booze were in the muted nose as the taste was just as earthy and dank. Full in body and light in carbonation, this was a bit chewy in the back thanks to the presence of the PIlsner Malt and oats but I couldn't feel them on the palate as much as the turbid hops.
However, the booze was there as it easily kept me warm in the middle of the snowstorm that's still going on outside! Plenty cloying and somewhat sticky, this was not like other IPA's from these parts as this felt much stronger than it was in actuality. No date on the bottom of the can as a bit of sediment had to be swirled out, and there were hints of deep, gummy sugar and a subtle burn in the back once I finally finished this off. Loved the label and was glad to get my hands on this, as much of their offerings aren't readily available in these parts. A chaser of water might be needed afterwards but otherwise, this was a decent IPA that I'd have again during the colder months!
