Beer #1 from my 2025 advent calander!
A- Very interesting! This one pours a pinkish, almost guava colored hue out of the can, and the clarity is definitely murky, only somewhat being able to see through this. The head is basically white, but just with a pink undertone....it retains very well in my tulip glass, starting about two solid fingers in thickness before settling down to one finger....puffy, clumpy and good looking! The lacing isn't quite as robust, with most of the clinging foam around the inside of my glass gently gliding back into the abyss. I cannot quite see what the carbonation looks like due to the haziness, but it would appear to be sublime and relaxed. Overall a very decent looking wheat ale!
S- There is a duly noted watermelon aroma about this one.....it is sweet and juicy....almost candy like to be honest. Underlying light malt notes are detected, with residual sugars abound and a finish that is certainly not bitter at all. A slight rind tartness is found throughout as well, adding to the general fruitiness of the beer....I cannot even distinguish the dryness of the wheat used in this one....almost more dessert like within this category.
T- Alright, the sweetness all but disappears from the flavor, as opposed to the aromas, and where I thought this would be very fruity, there is but a nuance of sweet watermelon happening with some not quite sour notes, but rather beyond unripe melon flavonoids producing a not quite sour, but not at all sugary version of the watermelon...almost dry to be exact. There is underlying dry wheat kernel graininess, prairie grass and on the finish, there is a slight rind like bitterness....like biting into the skin of the watermelon itself.....overall this is a tasty drink and very refreshing.
M/O- The mouthfeel of this one is light, perhaps leaning into medium bodied, and the carbonation is rounded very well, with a generally smooth bubbliness that for a moment or two, is zesty on the palate. I would find the drinkability of this wheat ale very high, especially in the Summer months when it is hot....a splendid patio beer! Paired with a raspberry vineaigrette based salad, I think this would be a perfect accompaniment! A solid start to the advent calendar review theme and I would recommend this one, and will get again if presented the opportunity! Cheers!
