Beer #8 of the KALEA Canadian Beer Advent Calendar. Thanks to Kevin and Nicole for this. I wasn't sure what to classify it as, clearly it's a very strong German Pilsner, however the Imperial Pilsner (American) tagline, probably has more similarities than a garden variety German Pils. But I digress and get on to drinking. Best before August 20, 2020. Served at cellar temperature into a pint glass. 330 ml bottle.
Appearance - Very pale straw pouring from the bottle, but rich golden in the glass. More haze than you'd expect. Nearly two fingers of head that fizzles down into a small collar in short time.
Smell - Grainy and bready mostly, some sharp booziness lurking in the background. Not much else.
Taste - Pretty crisp, lots of grains, some nice hop bitterness, leafy and grassy hops mostly and a puckering of pepper and harsh booze at the end. The alcohol is concealed well enough, but there's no doubt this is a bit stronger than your normal pils.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, good fizzy carbonation, tingly sensations on the tongue to close from alcohol and slight peppery qualities.
Overall - Pretty solid stuff and an enjoyable high powered version of a pils. A nice addition to the calendar.
