Fischer's Brauhaus Mössingen “Fischer’s Spatz”
,5L brown glass bottle coded “MINDESTENS HALTBAR: 24.02.22”. Sampled on 09.25.21
€,85 @ Fischer’s Brauerei Markt, Mössingen, DE
Fischer’s Spatz is a fairly light beer with a starting gravity of 11.6 Plato, and an alcohol content of 4.7% ABV. It’s crystal clear and straw gold in color, and the head is a full cap of pillowy bright white foam. Both the head retention and lacing are quite good with rings of craggy lace left behind, rising up from the liquid like ancient Roman ruins. It’s brewed exclusively with Tettnanger Tettnang hops as are all of the Fischer’s beers if I’m not wrong, and the aroma is delicately malty, floral, and subtly herbal. It’s bright and fresh and welcoming. The flavor brings in some sweetish malt that’s slightly different than the usual Pils but I think that’s just coming from the combination with the hops as nothing beyond gerstenmalz is listed on the label. A moderate bitterness balances it, and it finishes dry but not biting as the lightly sweetish malt fades steadily away and the bitterness step in to replace it. In the aroma, flavor, and bitterness it’s a fairly delicate beer and that also follows in the mouthfeel. It’s medium-light in body and gently crisp and then smooth with a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation. In the end it’s a remarkably drinkable beer that can still hold your interesting beyond one or two.
