Familienbrauerei Bauhöfer GmbH & Co. KG “Ulmer Pilsner”
€3,50 / ,33 cl alla spina @ Berberè Pizzeria, Firenze, IT on 26 November 2019
Look: Clear golden body beneath a short head of white foam. Good head retention and very good lacing.
Smell: Lager yeast sulphur, grainy malt, and floral hops.
Taste: Sweetish grainy malt with a hint of fruitiness is balanced by a median to firm bitterness that leads to a mostly dry finish. Some sweetish malt lingers shortly, and to be honest, it’s rather boring.
Feel: Medium bodied with a standard carbonation that leaves it crisp.
Overall: Boring hops, boring finish, boring beer. It’s acceptable but worlds away from being the best Pilsner out there, and I think that the sulphur found in the aroma proves that it’s being turned over fairly quickly.

Clear golden color with lively carbonation and off-white head. Aroma has really clean, bready malt with some generic hops in the background and a touch of honey. Taste starts with a light malt sweetness, bread notes and light honey. Finishes with a floral/earthy hop bitterness. Medium body, quite smooth and well carbonated. A really well made pils although a bit atypical with more body and sweetness than other examples.
