Familienbrauerei Bauhöfer GmbH & Co. KG “Ulmer Hefeweizen Hell”
€3,50 / ,33cl alla spina @ Berberè Pizzeria, Firenze, IT on 26 November 2019
Look: Typical hefeweizen appearance with the exception that both the head retention and lacing could be better.
Smell: Wheaty malt, banana, soft spice and plastic-like phenols.
Taste: All of the components found in the aroma return although the plastic-like note is much more subdued. It’s sweetish but mostly balanced, and it lingers shortly with some wheaty malt and banana hanging on.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp, but as a hefeweizen it could certainly have a higher level of carbonation.
Overall: It’s a competent hefeweizen as far as style goes, but it lacks a certain je ne sais quoi that would make it more interesting and drinkable.
