Kronenbrauerei Alfred Schimpf GmbH “Schimof 1870 Jubi Märzen”
,5L brown glass bottle coded “Mindestens haltbar bis: 27.10.21 No.1107”. Sampled on 21.09.21.
Look: Clear amber colored body beneath a two finger thick head of rocky off-white foam. The head retention and lacing are both very good.
Smell: Surprisingly hoppy with floral notes over sweetish and bready malt. Some brown sugar. It’s clean and bright and welcoming.
Taste: As the aroma suggests, it’s bright and fresh with floral hops, sweetish bready malt, some caramel/brown sugar, and a touch of underlying fruitiness. It’s subtly toasty as well. A median bitterness balances it and it finishes dry and lingering with floral, earthy, and subtly spicy hop notes.
Feel: Medium bodied with a moderate, seemingly natural carbonation that leaves it gently crisp and then smooth across the palate.
Overall: It’s full enough and rich enough to be satiating while at the same time delivering a great deal of drink ability. Well worth trying.
