The U.S. West Coast pioneered this hop-forward style. Lots of big, bold American hops coupled with a rich, malty base.

Purchased at Dan Murphy's Noosaville in June 2024 and drunk the next day.
L: Bright, golden yellow, with a thin smattering of head. No carbonation can be seen in the glass.
S: Clean caramel malts, citrusy hops.
T: This is billed as a West Coast IPA, but the brewer did note on the can that it was their interpretation of the style. I was hoping for big, chewy caramel and dank, resiny hops, but instead, I was presented with something closer to the modern style, with restrained malts and tangy, almost zesty, citrusy hops, but almost no bitterness.
M: The mouthfeel is full and quite soft. Carbonic bite is minimal.
O: While this wasn't the hoppy beast I was hoping for, it was still tasty and very easy to drink compared to what I probably would have gotten if it presented what I was hoping for, but I do sometimes yearn for the in-your-face IPAs of the 2010s!
Cheers!
