Don't call it a pale ale, they've been here for years. Where IPA is all the rage, the classic American pale ale gets little fan fare so if brewers are going to make one, it's gotta be wrapped in a hoppier demeanor.
Trellis' Not a Pale Ale looks the part with a soft amber hue, cast in a slight hoppy glow. As its frothy eggshell cap rises, the toasted caramel scent is met with citrus, spruce, herb and grasses. Sweeter in its upstart, the early palate shines with dry maltiness, toast, nuttiness and spice to suggest a light granola flavor. The middle palate invites a more hoppy tone with pink grapefruit, orange and dried pineapple that quickly trends bitter with pine needle, peppery resins, fruit peel and curious herb.
Medium bodied, easy drinking and harking back to the o.g.'s of craft beer, the pale ale is bitter leaning while finishing malty dry for a classic hoppier-than-usual spin on a classic.
