Soko Bag Korean Fried Chicken & Beer "Soko Bag's The Belgian"
16 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$18/4-pk @ Soko Bag on 9 August 2025
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's brewed by Animated Brewing in Coatesville, PA. The body is a hazy deep golden-amber in color beneath a short head of densely creamy and slightly off-white foam. There's plenty of Belgian yeast character in the nose with phenolic spice and clove over a sweetish and grainy malt base. On to the taste... it's very much the same. This is a big, malty beer that's loaded with phenolic spice, clove, banana, apple, pear, golden raisin, demerara sugar, some dark skinned raisin, vanilla, Band-Aid, and a light touch of smokey almost-burnt plastic. That probably sounds bad but it's not. The alcohol has more presence than it should, which hurts it, but it also helps to balance it along with a stiff bitterness. In the mouth it's medium-full in body and crisp with a fine-bubbled carbonation. The head has held up exceptionally well and I still have a thin but solid cap of creamy foam. The lacing is exceptional as well with solid rings and walls of spotty lace covering the glass. For those who appreciate a tripel, biere de garde, or strong golden ale that you can sit with and steadily sip this one's for you.
