This beer was served to me in a 10 oz. schooner at the Fishbowl Brewpub by a waitress who claimed it to be about 10% ABV. I later heard 8% ABV. The actual value is likely to be variable by batch, but no matter. Grumpy Old Dennis has a robust sugarplum aroma that spills eagerly from the glass, and a very sexy warm amber color. The taste is candied fruit with a solid measure of alcohol to the tongue and to the belly. After settling, a thin film of a head remains.
Prior to the merger of Fish Brewing with Leavenworth Beers, this was originally a Leavenworth brew without the name Dennis affixed to it. Dennis is apparently a regular at the Fishbowl and is said to be somewhat politically opinionated. Is it coincidence that Grumpy Old Dennis can be abbreviated GOD? I would think so. The beer in heaven is probably a notch more refined than this, though on a strictly secular scale, this is a well rounded and hearty brew with a fruity body and balanced bitter finish. It might do well to age a few years.

Had Grumpy Old Dennis with the man himself (grumpy old dennis, but he is not so grumpy unless the barleywine is out). It is an on tap only beverage which is served in a schooner. Pours a nice white head which is surprising for a barleywine. Nice fruity ester taste with malty sweetness and a citrusy hop taste and aroma (probably from cascade hops) that made me think I was drinking the IPA. Asked the brewmaster about the Abv and it is 8%.
