Despite the heavy herbal-like spice with the clove in the gingerbread, I somehow did enjoy this thick stout. And gingerbread stouts seem easy to disappoint in my experience. Not so much here. Not super great in overall balance of ingredients, but still something tasty. Grew on me for the type of stout. Bitter and roasty too, but with a terrific rich, chewy feel in my opinion. Milk stout with a superb mouthfeel and a slight punch to the tongue's tip.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, and Christmas spice aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, earth, char, gingerbread, and intense Christmas spice flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer with solid gingerbread characteristics, but there is an intense spice presence that makes this one quite bitter with each sip.

Serving type: bottle.

When I opened this one got a whiff of ginger. Taste is pure ginger, overdone with ginger. This beer has promise, with. Lighter amount of Ginger.

I was looking forward to drinking this beer after trying their other holiday releases.

The appearance is very dark, with decent head retention. The aroma is spicy holiday gingerbread.

The taste is where this beer falls off. It is very tart, like old coffee. You pick up some dark malt and gingerbread, but the bitterness is really overpowering. Its a palate assault that triple IPA's cannot match.

The mouth is decent if you can handle the tartness. Overall, it's not for me and I won't drink this again.
