$ 6.00 (Including tax)/6-pack of 12 oz cans ($ 0.083/oz) from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. Reviewed 7/8/19.
Can has many numbers on the bottom but nothing that is clearly a date. On shelf at point of sale. Stored upside down at 42 degrees and served at 54 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Dark brown, clear.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque. When held to the light, slight translucence around edge.
Head – Large (Maximum 5.5 cm, aggressive center pour), tan, average density, short retention, diminishing to a four mm crown and a thin complete cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Chocolate-malty. Fades as it warms.
Flavor – 4.25 – Chocolate-malt-forward with a bit of char and sourness. No alcohol taste or aroma (5.5 % ABV), no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, almost creamy, soft carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 - (-0.25 points for dated personal container that you would have to be a cryptographer to successfully interpret.) An organic beer that tastes good enough to drink again – I can die now, my life’s complete! This is a very pleasing English porter
