I drank a pint of Leavenworth back-to-back with a pint of Fish Tale Blonde, expecting that perhaps the likeness of the two styles as produced by the same brewer might reveal some similarities. But the two beers were strikingly different from one another.

Leavenworth Light is a clouded yellow-gold beer with a sharp taste suggestive of a wheat or rye adjunct and noble hop spice. Its ultra-dry taste is light and quenching with a momentarily spicy finish followed by a drab aftertaste. The tall frothy head quickly abated, but the lace was well presented. The doughy aroma achieves deft hop expression, and the body feels meager on the tongue, though I suppose that's by design.

Not a great beer overall, but as a light beer it exceeds expectations.
