New brewer and beer, amazing.

Great bottle design. Pretty good smooth head, quite carbonated, very musky aroma.

Taste is quite a bit less sweet than other Helles. Quite a unique flavour. Harsh and not easy drinking. It tastes like the malt has been smoked or roasted. Burnt even. Yet it's still helles/pilsner coloured. Hops are bitter but it seems like the main bitterness is actually from the malt. Anyway it's a very unique and interesting flavour and different from any beer I have had before.

In general I love bitter beers, and this is bitter in a malty way, somehow. I like the bitterness but I don't really like the taste. It's a bit too "burnt". Still it's mega complex and unique and mouth feel is complex. Hops really come through in the aftertaste. Every sip tastes difference and as it warms up, the taste also changes and improves. So much compexity. The burntness is a kind of acquired taste and the more I drink it, the more I like it.

The more I drink this and the more it warms up, the more I like it. It's an amazing beer and possibly quite unknown. It tastes nothing like any other helles, or any other beer that I have had before. And I like it the more that I drink it. And now I have drunk it so tomorrow I will buy 6 more.

Kurpfalz Brau Helles from Brauerei Weldebräu. 500 mL (16.9 fl oz) can. Part of “12 German Beer Specialities” box. $ 4.25 (Including tax)/can, $ 0.251/fl oz. from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA, picked up 02/11/24. Reviewed 31/12/24 (Review 3435). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “E2025 03” Stored at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 46.0 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 52.5 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), clear.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), clear. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, same with slight greenish tint.
Head: Large (Maximum 5.2 cm, aggressive center pour), white. Initially meringue-like. Rapidly drops to a 0.5 – 0.7 cm ragged crown fed by carbonation and a heaped, partial, rocky cap.
Lacing – As the head collapses, arcs of lacing as well as isolated islands appear. Later, as the beer level drops, complex patterns of the tiny to near microscopic develop. Eventually, these degenerate into torn curtains.
Aroma – 4 – Grainy with a hint of floral hops, slightly sweet. No malt, no ethanol (5.3% ABV, as marked on label). No disulfide or diacetyl.
Flavor – 4 – Begins crisp and hoppy (some Nobel variety), no ethanol. No disulfides, no diacetyl. Finishes slightly sweet. No gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium; approaching creamy; soft carbonation.
Style: Basically, follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 4 Very easy drinking, pleasing aroma and decent taste.

500ml can poured into a .5L mug.
EXP 2025/03

L: Fairly clear yellow pour, 3 finger white head, persistent rocky foam leaves fine sticky lacing.
S: Bread grain to open, some light mineral aromas, apple cider as it settles down.
T: Nice malt flavor up front, cereal grains and honey, some green apple flavor, herbal hops with a little spice drying up the back with mild bitterness.
F: Medium-weight frothy body hardens enough by finish for a small bite, a bit of tongue numbing sensation.
O: Nice session-able mug of beer, malt forward, as it should be, with subtle hop character.

Gold in color with a half inch of frothy off white on top. It quickly turns to a fingernail on top. The aroma is of lightly toasted grains and faint grassy hops. I’m tasting grassy hops and light grains. The mouth is very light and easygoing.

Look - 7th beer of the 2021 Costco Advent Calendar. Poured into a tulip glass. Golden in color, clear, two finger head with moderate lacing retention.

Smell - a lot of malts with noticeable yeast, generating a sugary and light fruit scent.

Taste - lightly malty to start with a moderate hoppy nudge towards the middle, with some tastes of crackers in this very clean finish.

Feel - light bodied, leaning on the medium side; high carbonation; and right on par in ABV for the style at 5.3%.

Overall - this is a solid Helles: one with plenty of character and a nice balance of malts and hops in the taste to my liking.

New least favorite. Chewy and card board notes and to dry. Over fermented maybe? Prost!

Day 7 of the 2021 Costco Beer Advent Calendar. Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours yellow orange with a fluffy white head. Smells of sweet grain, inviting, but not too strong. Tastes of sweet grain, nice and crisp. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.
