I stopped by the Brauereigasthof Schlüssel on 02OCT09 for a quick lunch and a bier or 2. This dark bier caught my eye, and two 0.5l glasses (at 2.70EU per) did the trick, along with a fantastic Französische Zwiebelsuppe.
My tall glass was holding a clear, deep mahogany hued liquid. More color shown through at the glasses edges. Head was a tan, rocky mass, billowing 2' above the rim of the glass. It slowly ebbed, yet left great lacing behind. Some roasty choco appears in the nose, with a touch of toffee as well, though it's restrained. The body was almost medium, yet it still was fairly smooth as it passed down the hatch.
Light toffee highlights the opening flavor salvo. Some dark chocolate and roasted coffee also make appearances, and this one is a tad bitter, though in a good way. Earthy hops round things out at the finish, which is a bit dry, yet very pleasing. A well-made Dunkel. Zum Wohl!!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
