B5 Brewing Co. "Eclipsed By The Moon"
16 fl. oz. can (crowler) filled on 12/26/25 and consumed shortly after
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured an opaque black body beneath a full head of tan foam. The aroma expresses almond but I think I'm only coming up with that because it's in their online description. You can smell the alcohol amidst some ashen roastiness but it's not too strong. It's a touch fruity as well. On to the taste, the almond character and alcohol are both there right upfront, backed by a rich, milk chocolate and nougat character. It's like a candy bar but not as sweet. I guess I wasn't imagining the almond in the aroma. There's a seam of fruitiness running through it as well that contains some sweet apple, cherry, and black currant. There's more to it but I'm having a hard time finding it. One guess I'd make is that there's some coconut involved, and probably toasted coconut at that as it's got a toasty edge to it. It's rich but not overdone, and very nicely balanced. The roastiness is kept in check, the fruitiness is thin but clear, the chocolate is soft but wide, and the coconut is delicate but livening. It's also nutty and toasty so what the hell else do you need? There's not a lot of bitterness to it but it doesn't come off as sweet and cloying in the finish, perhaps because the alcohol is enough to dry it. It's nicely balanced and well rounded. In the mouth it's full-medium, and quite smooth across the palate. If only the alcohol could have been reigned in a little bit more this could be a world-class classic.
