Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, coconut, dark chocolate and dark molasses.Flavor is dark toasted malt with moderate char, bakers chocolate, toasted coconut and dried plums in the finish; reminiscent of bourbon (which I don't believe is involved here). Medium bodied with moderate creaminess. A dark, rich stout with excellent chocolate in both the aroma and taste and a pleasant level of coconut. The plumy note in the finish tastes a lot like bourbon barrel influence, but barreling isn't mentioned so I'm not sure where it comes from. It adds a little interest to the flavor. The malt and chocolate have a nice smoky char flavor. This is a great tasting stout that does not seem to be getting much attention. The can promises chocolate, coconut and despair, and does great on the first two, but I'm not getting the latter. Nicely done.
