Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear deep amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of earthy grains and wet bread with a bit of biscuit backing. Flavor has sweet grains backed by earthy grains and biscuit supporting.

Appearance: Likely this beer's best feature. Has a really nice, deep amber color, and the lacing is phenomenal. Hard to judge it completely accurately though, seeing as how I had it in a plastic cup.

Smell: Not much to it. It smells like the style, but has something sort of "cheap" about it. And that goes on in the flavor....

Taste: It's not BAD. It's just not great. I didn't like it so much my first few sips, but I dug it a little bit more as I finished up. It has a ton of malt, but it's definitely not of the highest quality. I almost get a gravelly taste. Certainly doesn't taste "pure", though I don't think it's terrible... especially for being a beer brewed in Detroit. As far as made-in-Detroit beers, this is one of my favorites... though that isn't saying much.

Clear copper red. Impressive looking for a lager.

Sweet caramel smells with hints of tart fruit and rich grains. Underlying aromas of hops and other lightly bitter notes.

Mainly malty tasting. Rich caramel with grainy cereal. Slightly gritty earth flavors blend nicely with the sweet ones. Respectable hip bitterness. Overall flavor is about as complex as the body can hold.

Light/medium bodied with creamy carbonation.

growler into a pint glass.

color is a deep, transparent, cherry red with amber highlights showing through. didn't give me much head when poured, just a thin cap, but leaves a lot of spider webby lacing in the glass.

smell is grainy and sweet with a bit of grass and spicy hops.

taste a good mix of sweet carmel malts and herbal hop bitterness. hop character is much more pronounced than other red lagers that i have tried, but still feels balanced. finish is dry and the bitterness lingers.

chewy and has a bit of a syrupy quality, fine carbonation lends a bit of smoothness. heavier than i was expecting.

very drinkable and pretty solid overall, seems to be true to style as well. i'm not much of a lager fan, but this one is certainly worth a try.
