On-tap 6/30/07 at Racebook Brewpub @ Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, CT.
A: The beer is a light reddish brown color, with a medium off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is very faint but contains mostly caramelized malts, a hint of spice and a touch of hops.
T: The taste is bready and very ordinary with light flavors of caramel, tea & mild spices. The malt character is hearty but there’s not a lot of sweetness and the hops presence is a kind of thin. The after-taste is bready.
M: Smooth with a little crispness, medium body, medium carbonation, clean and dry finish.
D: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, it’s a beer that’s only worth sticking with if you want a slightly darker beer that is still mild. Personally, I’d prefer something with a little bit more flavor, but it’s certainly better than the Sachem’s Ale, which is the other beer that this brewpub produces year-round.

The beer poured a sickly copper in color with a huge fizzy head. I asked the bartender to let it sit and top it off. She ignored me and walked away. I'll be blunt, the only thing I liked about this beer was that it was dry. The hops were lifeless and there was not much of anything else to this beer.

First of all let's start off by saying that the Race Book Brew Pub is the a fairly weak example of a brewpub. Average smoky bar, in the race book, with a few standard beers thatlook like they rarely change. I tried their dark beer, the Matahga Lager. Color is a light copper, vey lear, light fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Very little aroma, smells a little malty but that's about it. Taste is pretty smooth and malty, dry, with little to no hop character and no real aftertaste. Nothing to write home about...

I got a nice malty feel from this, reminiscent of Oktoberfest. Reminded me a bit of Dr Pepper, with a thin fizzy soda pop mouth. Still, I thought it was crisp and refreshing, solid if unremarkable. Served very cold so the flavor doesn't really jump out anyway.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
