My first ever visit to ‘The Southampton Arms’ (London) and one of the many cask offerings was this beer: my fourth beer of a slow Saturday afternoon session was a hand-pulled pint of this, poured into an old ‘dimpled pint mug’, like all the cask ales are in this pub.

Pale for a winter brew, it almost looks like a dark lager/pilsner: golden, clear and with a thin white covering for a head.

The nose is a pleasant blend of mild biscuit malts and some floral hop smells.

Taste wise it comes alive: a hop bitterness combined with a citrus and spicy feel give the malt content something to think about, the malts respond by hitting your taste buds with non-sweetened caramel biscuits and a toffee apple.

A great last pint before moving on into central London for a Film Festival.
