Not a total haze bomb, but not particularly clear, either. Rich golden yellow with a solid finger+ of rocky head that lingers nicely, and leaves traces along the glass as it finally dissipates.

The nose is very strong and quite inviting. It's big juicy fruits up front. Somewhat sweet and creamy. Wow. That's actually quite impressive.

The flavour is not quite so bold, but I'm actually kind of grateful for that. I like this split on an IPA: big fruity notes on the nose, and then a drier more bitter profile on the tongue. This is not to say that the tongue does not carry a strong flavour, or that it is devoid of fruity notes or anything, just that the driving force on the tongue is old school pithy bitterness and I am here for it. There's some frut=it and nectar around the edges, but this is true to its word a west coast IPA from the glory days.

It's growing on me the more I get into it.

Mouthfeel is sharp with carbonation and a medium body. The bitterness drives the shop here, but it is not overpowering .It's bold, ,but repeatable. You're not going to down it in one go or anything, but it is bitter and drinkable which is a nice combination. Pith and pine. I miss those days.

Crystal clear dark yellow brew with plenty of foam in the New Belgium snifter. This is really sweet and fruity but with such unusual flavors it's hard to come up with any adjectives. There's something like chestnuts with grapefruit peel. Then the apricot aroma and lemon in the nose.

The taste is quite strong and well worth trying to get a face-full of Vista and Cashmere hops. Overall it's quite sippable and entertaining. Sweet, though. From the 16 oz can purchased at San Diego Wine & Beer Co. but date stamp uncertain.
