The fifth beer tasted at the Piglet 2 Mini-Beerfestival, Leyton, London, 24/02/06. Gravity-dispensed from the cask.
A: ebony colour with some ruby hues, coming with a naturally fluffy and foamy beer head; very low carbonation as far as my eye-sight could manage.
S: charred malts, with good spicy and herbal support; suggestion of vanilla-seed and aromatic Brazilian coffee beans sustains firmly in the background--deep and suble the overall aroma is.
T: medium-bitter coffeeish roasted malts prevail from the first second onwards; charred wood as well as lightly smoked woody flavour serve as the backbone of the complex flavour, where cold filtered coffee, leather and light hints of tobacco play the second fiddle in the background. An underlying touch of hayish hoppyness and much more charred-woody aftertaste linger forever at the back...
M&D: satisfyingly smooth throughout and medium-full flavoured, this is a very delicious as well as reasonably complex English stout that I'm so lucky to taste on cask. It proves the quality of this brilliant micro-brewery.
