Tasted by half-pint at the Capitol, a WetherspoonÂ’s pub at Forest Hill, SE London.
A: clear, dark copper in colour, nice off-white foam with good retention, low carbonation.
S: prunes and preserved plums on top of sweet-ish caramely malts, a bit of coconut shavings, and licorice. Quite autumny smell for a bitter. Modest and nice.
T: a mild touch of chocolates comes forward following the initial entry of sour-sweet stone-fruitsÂ… leading towards a hoppy finish with just enough herbal bitter-sweetness to round off the palate.
M&D: slightly thin-ish and light-bodied bitter; although the taste is quite fresh, the healthy dose of carbonation seems to be lacking on the mouthfeel. All in all, an average offering for the autumn--simple, easy to drink.
