Bright. Zesty. Lively.
Wētā is our take on a New Zealand pilsner - dry, crushable, and stupidly drinkable. As always brewed with 100% Rabbit Hill malt, decoction mashed, and appropriately lagered. Wētā is hopped with our favorite hops from the Kiwis - Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka, and Motueka, yielding hints of lemon-lime, white wine, and a delicate brite citrusy grapefruit finish.

As this is the first entry for this beer, I will add the brewer's description, and then my review:

Picked up a 4pack/pounders, of this new offering from Wanderback Beerworks. It is pronounced
"WEE-Tay" long E/A. True to the kiwi style of Pilsner, this one has a lovely smell, after an aggressive pour into a tall, Pilsner glass. You really get that light, citrus smell, blended with a nice sweet malt presence. I can pickup the grape character as well(although very subtle). The beer, is a bright, clear, light golden color w/ a solid 3 finger head.
That sticks around. That smell! So alluring. Nice to see a Pilsner show off those hops like the ipas do.
And those NZ hops are AMAZING. nice, full bodied flavor at 4.8%abv. Moderately carbonated. There is a no canned-on date(which bothers me) but I know this is their newest beer at WB. I think July 2025 it was Introduced & it tastes FRESH. A home run of-a-beer! I was pleased to have added it. I love supporting my local breweries, and especially, when they deliver the goods on a style like this one!
Ps: PLEASE add NZ Pilsner as a beer style. It is not on the drop-down menu. Cheers!
