Bought for me by my daughter and her husband for a laugh: best before date conveniently missing, they try to find awful beers they know I'll have never had before and expect me to review and love them for their efforts!
Anyway here goes on a live review (with Scottish Cheddar, Rumanian Salami, Brazil Nuts and Italian Olives).
Poured into an 'Abbot Ale' glass tankard: bollocks it's just gushed out all over the place, just missed the lap top but it's on the table, floor and posh table runner. I wasn't expecting that, must have lost a good quarter of the beer.
It settles as I stare at it and eat some cheese with the salami: the body of the beer is golden and clear, not really bright, but not dull either. the head is a huge white mess, slowly subsiding as I munch some more food waiting for the beer to calm down.
The smell is of spicey hops, yeast and semi-sweet molasses: not unpleasant actually.
The taste follows the aromas, light hop front with a yeasty, malt depth that surprises me: this is a cheap gimmick beer don't forget.
If it had been less lively I'd have scored this higher: sadly the over carbonisation has ruined the experience for me (plus the wife will give me a roasting when she gets home because of the carpet and runner stains. This brewery do a great job of producing good value beers for whoever wants them: no world beaters, but fine beers for the price almost every time.
The food helped greatly with the review and didn't alter the scores or my taste buds thoughout the time I've spent drinking and writing this!

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2011 (or April 2012, as the bottle has two dates on it?!) Brewed for the Netto supermarket chain, apparently for their birthday as the label has 19th birthday celebration plastered over the front. Described as a nut brown bitter.
Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear coppery-amber with low carbonation. Forms a small head of frothy off-white foam; this disappears after a couple of minutes. Faint aroma of sweet malt with notes of toffee/caramel.
Tastes of caramel malt with a mild bitter finish. Notes of toffee and faint citrus hops. Mouthfeel is smooth but a little thin; leaving the palate slightly dry. Insubstantial bitter aftertaste.
A fairly average ale but not all bad. The malt and hops are quite well balanced, resulting in a mild flavour. Several offerings I've tried from this brewery have been virtually undrinkable, so this is leaps ahead by comparison. Palatable; just not worth seeking out.
