Served in an Ohio State shaker pint glass.
Not gonna lie, I chose this batch over the second simply on the strength of the barrel-aging (and my general distaste for dry-hopped browns). Here we go: This stuff pours a seemingly cloudy midnight sienna topped by a finger or so of khaki foam. The nose comprises toffee, light graham cracker, vague Jim Beam, light wood, and a hint of vague fruit on the periphery. The taste is a strident din of cheap whiskey (making Beam look grand in comparison), wet wood, old graham crackers, cocoa powder, green apple, hard water, black pepper, and chalk. Wow. The body is a lithe medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, this beer didn't seem infected or down that road, it was just a messy heap of poorly-executed ideas. Not a fan.

22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. This is the first of two collaboration beers between Two Brothers and Solemn Oath. This beer has a brown label and the other has a green label, to avoid confusion. I drank the other beer first, since it wasn't barrel aged, and I wasn't terribly impressed, so I am hoping for better results here.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours an extremely dark body, nearly opaque, with some ruby hues when held to the light. Just under two fingers of soapy bubbly tan head. Looks pretty nice.
S - Ah yes, this one is looking up from the last one already. Smooth oak wood, vanilla, some alcohol astringency, a hint of hops remaining, and some dusty green apple skin and yeast must present as well from the base beer.
T - Taste follows the nose: vanilla, whiskey, oak wood, caramel, butterscotch, yeast must, and dusty green apple skin. The base beer is noticeable underneath, but the whiskey barrel aging has done it's thing.
M - Feel is smooth, silky, and creamy. Medium bodied with perfect carbonation.
Overall, this was a clear step upward from the companion beer, Two Brothers / Solemn Oath Brotherhood Of The Barrel Batch 2 Of 2: Brown Ale Dry-Hopped, that's for sure. If this proved anything, it's that even sloppy barrel aging can achieve good results, because even though it feels sloppy and poorly put together, the barrel aging seems to have given the beer time to mellow and harmonize with itself. Or maybe I just like barrel aged beers. Either way, I definitely enjoyed this one, and I'm glad I drank these out of order.
