Bottle shared by Tim, thanks!

A: Reddish orange with a small white head.

S: Cherry and strawberry candy. Faint bread. Smells really nice. I get a little vinegar, but the candy aspect really dominates the nose.

T: Tastes like a sour strawberry jolly rancher. I get a little peach. Bready malt base remains. There's a light acetic acidity.

M: Upper medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A lucky accident. This turned out to be pretty good.

Review from notes, luckily I saved them after the server crash...

Ok, this is supposedly the "funky sour" batch that turned...I have to say it turned out better than the '03 we had in the same night.

Rusty orange in the glass, strong retention with arcs of lacing inside the glass. A nice acetic Flemish sour aroma... funky, cheesy, cidery. Overripe brown apples rotting in the grass under orchard trees in the midday sun. With a swirl, there's a slightly sharp vinegar element. Flavor is yeasty, with a dominating grape champagne yeast character. Tart, dry, and savory...everything I want in a sour ale, not so much in a wheatwine, but i'm enjoying it for what it is. It seems almost like a Berliner Weisse/Barleywine hybrid, as weird as that sounds. If this was billed as a Wild Ale, it would be #1 on the hype train. As it stands, it's a forgotten experiment that had potential... Throw this on oak 2 Bros ;)

Bottle courtesy of Sephiroth, thanks again!

Nice looking beer, pours a bright red / amber color with a nice big off white head.

Aromas are of wine. A bit sour, with some oak, and a touch of vinegar. Odd smells... not bad, just not what I expected.

Taste is sour. Weird... this tastes almost like a wild ale. A cider like vinegar flavor, some oak, tartness, and with a dry warm finish.

Mouthfeel is ok, a decent full feeling, with carbonation that is holding up well.

Drinkability is not good. This isn't a bad tasting beer, but it misses the mark when it comes to being a wheat wine. The label talks about fruit flavors, but there not a lot going on here. It's mostly all about sour flavors. This just isn't right.

End Note : The more I drank this, the more I didn't like it. I poured part of the bottle out. This unfortunately was a miss.

My brother and I just found this in a Winfield liquor store (where the two brothers brewery is located)
Smells great. Almost like red wine.
It's not that sour, but it's definitely got some sour cherry/cranberry taste to it. The mouthfeel is thin, but it has two stages for sure. Initially, it's bubbly like a belgian, and tart like a lambic. It finishes a little warm with alcohol, and the taste becomes uniform of old fruit. There's a ton of stuff floating around in it and tiny bubbles rising to the top...almost no head at all. Looks like amber/caramel color.
Glad we got to try it, but just not our cup of beer at all.

Pours murky, dark gold, with barely any head.
Lack of carbonation even with an exaggerated pour lead to only partial coverage of white foam.
Aromatics are funky and fruity. Soured apple pulp, caramel, honey, and plenty of lactic tinge.
The mouthfeel is medium, sticky, and syrupy.
This beer has gone seriously lactic on the pallet. Sour and more funk.
Bruised and fermenting apples, vinegar-spiked apricots, lemon zests and cherry pits. Reminiscent of a flanders red or a tame lambic.
Alcohol is warming, but is barely noticable alongside the tart nature.
Finishes sour and fruity.
While if this were intentionly funkified and barrel aged with bugs, it could have been pretty good. Unfotunately though, I'm assuming that this is a contamination issue in the bottle.
Hense, some low marks for a rather enjoyable funk-brew.

Appearance - pours a muted amber. About two fingers of soft creamy head set up, fed by a very active bead from below, quite a show. Bands of thin sticky lace drape the glass as the head falls to just under a finger's thickness.

Aroma - heavy with dark fruit and yeast. More of a barleywine smell than a weiss. The yeast is there but the vapory esters are all over it. Caramel and some doughiness come out as it sets up.

Taste - ZING! I was expecting a weiss/dark fruit flavor and got this sour apple tart thing instead. Talk about a taste bud kick in the pants, whew! Getting past that first stage, I'm picking up some funkiness, lambic-like. My tongue cannot 'see' past these two flavors to get to anything listed on the label like caramel, melon, vanilla, pepper - none of that. The swallow doesn't develop anything and the finish is drying and sour. A miss for me due to expectation after enjoying the '04 and because the sour/funk is still a 'style in training'.

Mouthfeel - very smooth and bubbly. Feels good in the mouth with some nice body.

Drinkability - not for me, 'nuff said. Brett/sour fans, more for you!

Drank on 4/25/07 thanks to sephiroth for this awesome beer. I don't know why this beer has a low rating,

split with a friend, and drank my half out of a goblet .

A: Pours a dark orange. Sediment floats about. One finger offwhite head.

S: Smells strongly of dark fruits and sour apples. Alcohol is present. Smells belgian to me, almost like a lambic.

T: Damn that's nice. Apricots, apples, and hints of banana at the end. I've never tried this one fresh, nor do I know what A weiss wine is supposed to taste like. Tastes like a sour fruit beer, or maybe even a red wine.

M: Smooth, almost velvetty mouthfeel.

D: Didn't have any trouble getting this one down.

I don't know why this beer has an 83. I think anybody who didn't like this beer is insane. But then agian I guess we're all diffenent. Freakin whackos...

I've been cellaring this for a while, but i don't really know why...mainly just because i didn't find the time to drink it. Pours golden orange and fizzy. thin layer of filmy bubbles. little white sediment bits floating around. Weak sour citrus odor. some wheatiness in the nose as well but not very strong. Taste is not hugely flavorful...somewhat sour, a bit wheaty like water run through grains, yeah, quite watery and thin. Eh, yeah, i guess i should ahve opened this bottle sooner maybe...or maybe not, i don;t know..maybe it wasn't ever all that great.

Champagne bottle poured into my Delirium snifter.

A - Bright, shiny amber body with about an inch of head on top that dissipates to thin layer quickly, but the thin head sticks around and leaves pleasant lacing on the glass. Also, the appearance is very thick, almost syrupy. Left some yeast floaties in the bottle, so i have a very smooth, clear beer in the glass.

S - Tart apple, candy sugar, banana, and a little bit of a metallic alcohol smell as it swirls. A little bit of caramel malt as I go for a second sniff. The smell is actually reminding me a little bit of a weizenbock, but fruitier. Not bad, and there are certainly a lot of smells to pick up on here.

T - First impression is a bitter, sour apple that's not quite sweet enough. Definitely some alcohol type taste here, not really pleasant. Almost a dry champagne flavor coming through...definitely tastes like a bad bottle of champagne. For all of the smells that I picked up, the taste just isn't there. None of the nice fruits I was hoping for and the only sweetness that I'm getting tastes kind of like a pixy stix candy. Disappointing.

M - Thinner than I was expecting, decent carbonation, and definitely leaves your mouth feeling very dry after sipping.

D - Not very drinkable...the taste puckers you in a bad way, making you not really want to go back for more.

Poured a deep amber color with a decent head. First whiff was of some tart/sour wild yeast notes- this is not a typical wheat wine. Tastes of pear, grape- slightly tart and spicy. Moutfeel is also a little thin for the style. The tartness is an unpleasant addition for the style, making it less than an easy drinker. I definitely don't see this fitting into the wheat wine profile other than having the alcohol level and made with wheat malt. It's a decent beer and nothing you'd want to pour out, but just not something you'd want when you are in the mood for a *true* wheat wine.

*next day followup- Had about half the bottle capped off and did a little musing- perhaps this is more of a 'Berliner weiss' wine? I tried adding a little himbeer syrup like a Berliner weiss, and i think this could be more along the lines of an imperial Berliner weiss maybe? hmmm.

appearance: Pours a low, off white head that soon becomes a small island of bubbles and a very thin ring. The beer is a burnished, rich copper in color. A little lacking on the head, but nice color.

smell: Notes of green apple pulp, white grape, and green melon upfront. Not much grain aroma...some very light toffee aromas and a touch of wheat. Light noble hops.

mouthfeel: The carbonation is a higher medium, and the body the same.

taste: A considerable sweetness with pale grains, and a touch of toasted grain, upfront. The wheat is pretty light here. Flavors of melon rind, white grape, and light green apple. Light hop flavor and bitterness. Clean and with alright balance, but nothing special that stands out...maybe needs some depth.

drinkability: A decent beer, but not the easiest drinking wheat wine

750mL bottle purchased at Riley's in Madison last January...smuggled back and cellared since then

Aroma: Pears, white raisins, very light and fruity, a little bready.

Appearance: Brick red fading to yellow edging. Slightly cloudy with a thick pillowy white head.

Flavor: More pears, green apples, a little lactic twang, wheat bread, and a bit of an alcohol brush on the palate for the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with firm carbonation. A slightly acidic, puckering finish.

Overall impression: A lighter wheat wine than I've had in the past. Reminds me of some Belgian Tripels without the punch-in-the-face Belgian funk yeast. Refreshing and lively. Possibly a touch over-hyped and with the bottle conditioning, it would be cool to see how this one develops.

750ml bottle purchased as a single from Julio's, Marlboro, MA.

Poured into a Rapscallion glass, formed a 1/4" beige head over the slightly cloudy orangey amber brew. Head fades down to an uneven layer of bubbles pretty quick, with ample slow-falling lace. Aroma is green apple with a touch of alcohol. Taste is follows along, light maltiness with apple notes, and alcohol flavor and warming on the close. Mouthfeel and drinkability are both pretty okay. This wasn't what I was really expecting for the style, but nothing is making it pour it away either. Wheat character not as pronounced as I would have hoped.

750ml bottle, price tag says $7.99, bought at Riley's back around the new year

appearance: a very interesting bottle indeed, nice artwork but rather hard to see the dark silver on dark black...pours a glowing orange hued amber into a chalice, big foamy beige head forms immediately but by the time i had returned the bottle to the fridge, the head was gone...very light lacing....loads of sediment in the bottom

smell: very vinous, quite tart aromas, pungent green grape, sour green apple, light oak, touch of alcohol, vanilla

taste: interesting little wheat wine...vinous flavors, sour green apple, big juicy grape flavours, big alcohol presence that warms the throat, tart, oak effects, vanilla, wheat flavours drowned in sweet alcohol...interesting but more or less subpar

mouthfeel: medium body, smooth, alcohol warming

drinkability: average-ish

Poured from a 750ml bottle. This bottle is about three months old from purchase date. I have one more bottle of this that is five months old from purchase that I'm gonna age for an undtermined amount of time.

Appearance- The first pour was a half finger head with a one minute retention until nothingness. The second pour (after warming for about forty-five minutes was better sustained and frothy. Color is a lightly rusty, yet hazy deep amber. A few sparse bubbles make their way to the top of the brew in the beginning.

Smell- A tart mix of green garpes and Granny smith apples. Hints of oak, Kriek cherries, and other spicy fruits hit the nose.

Taste- Starts out with some viney oak. This develops to a lambic kriek wheat flavor. With a general spicy/tart fruit and malt finish.

Mouthfeel- Overall tart, with some semi-sweet fruits and spices like ground up bell peppers mixed with black pepper. This beer was good, and you could taste the alcohol. But it blended well with teh other flavors. Whatever the abv. is. I have a feeling this beer was enjoyed a little too young. I have a feeling that this beer will taste damn good after a couple of years of aging. I'll be sure to let ya'll know what I think of the next bottle.

Sampled through the efforts of Murrayswine and UTBIF.

Pours a thick amber to copper colored beer with no head formation. Mildly hazy.

Smell is fairly fruity and you can smell it before it gets very close to your nose. There is a tart smell to this that is quite a bit like sour apples. Scents of apples, vanilla, oak, caramel and whiskey.

Taste is sweet tart and a little bitter at the start. There is a noticeable warming in my stomach after a few sips; whatever the alcohol percentage is it is more than 8%. Flavor is very much like a tart French hard cider. The taste is sour apples with an infusion of vanilla and oak from charred oak wood. There is a bit of lemon flavor to this one that makes me think that this is spontaneously fermented with a wild yeast strain. In the end I really don't like the taste of this one, it needs more hops and less funk in the flavor.

Mouthfeel is OK to good.

Drinkability isn't all that great to me. This just brings to many bad memories of REALLY funky Lambics to my mind. Many BA's REALLY dig Lambics but I am not one of them. I have tried to "get" Lambics several times and I just don't seem to have the gene for it.

If you like Lambics you will love this stuff, If you don't then give this one a pass.

A - Pours a bright amber with some slight lacing around the glass. There is also a slight constant flow of bubbles rising from the bottom.

S - Sweet wheat and malts. there is a background of floral hops.

T - Sweet sugary malts and the wheat give this an aroma of a bowl full of cheerios. The citrus hops back this one up nicely.

M - Slick and smooth. I enjoy it thoroughly.

D - If it wasn't for the 11% alcohol it would be a great session beer.
