(Served in a wide body flute)
A- This beer has a pitch black opaque body that is do dark to see any sign of carbonation. The thick head is like chocolate milk with some big bubbles that last and last through half of the beer.
S- The smell of dark malts with a slight vinous smell and a big oak smell wafts from the glass even as it sits on the table. There is a slight dark cherry bourbon smell in the finish.
T- This beer has a big smooth dark malt character with some hints of brown malt and a faint crystal malt note. There are also notes of black malts and black roasted grain but they are very smooth and not bitter. The finish has a nice alcohol heat that enhances the faint hop bitterness and notes of bourbon and oak with some dark cherries and raisons in it. As it warms this beer finishes with a slight deep roasted coffee note in there aswell.
M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a creamy texture but the alcohol warmth takes away that creamy quality in the finish. No fizz or astringency in the mouthfeel.
D- This stout is really smooth yet complex in the malt bill but the alcohol is hot enough to add the right balance to the malt. Even though the oak is powerful, it compliments the big malt and alcohol and doesn't taste over-the-top. I will have to stop back for this one again very soon before it is gone.
