Tasted by half-pint at the Pembury Tavern, Hackney, N. London, on 02/07/2006. According to the website of the brewery, it's brewed with added root ginger, hence the name.
A: pale golden hue, coming with a nice fluffy white beer head with good retention; very low carbonation.
S: light-bodied and slightly sweet gingery and honeyish note upfront, mixed with a limey soft-citrus aroma. Refreshing and light, very different from the heavy-weight Iceni ginger beer ("It's a Grand Day") that I tasted two pints ago~~
T: a mineral and phenolic edge accompanies an initially gingery & malty palate... the phenolic hint intensifies towards the back of the palate, simultaneously bringing more intriguing bitterness as well as a chewy, lightly-smoked maltiness in the end. There's endless flow of bitter feel esp. on the sides of the tongue--very soothing and pleasant.
M&D: compared with the Iceni ginger beer tasted earlier the same afternoon, this one is lighter in aroma, body and more straight-forward in flavour for a ginger-spiced ale. But it also does benefit from a nice bitter edge that makes it a quaffable ale in summer time. Not bad at all~~
