(Notes of Nov. 07) Tasted by a half-pint at the Swim Inn, a JDW pub on the West Street, Sheffield; served by a sparkler pull.
A: dark amber in colour, coming with a tight, off-white frothy head and low carbonation.
S: caramel- and chocolate-malts come with a noticeable fragrance of sweet berry fruits with a touch of sour-ish apple slices and even white grape juice - apparent influence of yeast sediments, I'd say.
T: upfront comes a dry-ish palate of fruity and mildly roasted malts with Goldings-like hint of citrus zest in the background; very chewy in terms of bitterness in the aftertaste with a light touch of chocolates, where the long bitterness lingers pleasantly.
M&D: the texture is soft and fresh, as usual for a sparkler-poured fresh cask ale, albeit some unexpected influence/complication from the yeastiness, while the overall flavour is not as hoppy and full-flavoured as Ossett's other brews. An average beer, then.
