(A): Very dark / black, quickly fading head.
(S): I like my stouts cold (yeah, yeah, shut up!) so not getting the full nose here, but rich fruity malts are evident.
(T): Nice. Light for a stout, little bitterness for the style but some surprising gingery fruity undertones. I like.
(M): Again, thin for a stout, but I am drinking it in July, so not complaining. Fairly fizzy for a stout.
(O): Enjoyed it cold in July, is included in 4 for £5 deal at Morrisons, so absolutely cannot argue with it for the price. Recommended as a beginner's stout to anyone.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Oct 2013 (batch 3015). Picked up from a supermarket a while back. A stout with an addition of treacle to the brew for extra flavour.
Poured into a tulip pint glass. A dark ruby-brown hue that appears black in the glass. Yields a large head of creamy beige foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a thin surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of rich treacle, roasted malt, mild coffee, brown sugar, dried fruit, faint burnt grain, a twinge of liquorice and stewed hops. Slightly sweet - good stuff.
Tastes of roasted malt and treacle, with a lingering finish. Notes of roasted grain, treacle/molasses, charcoal, coffee, dried fruit, mild salty liquorice and stewed hops. Slightly sweet, with a malty, drawn-out bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with soft carbonation but a rather insubstantial body for the style. Somewhat astringent, followed by an aftertaste of bitter roasted malt, treacle and harsh stewed leaves/cardboard.
It's been a while since I reviewed an Ossett beer - the last was my first review ever. This is pretty good - the treacle certainly adds a unique flavour. Looks OK, with a satisfyingly rounded aroma of gooey treacle and roasted malt. The flavour has less depth, with bitter malt notes, treacle and stewed leaves. Body is thin and lacklustre - it could be creamier. Interesting but not as good as it could be. Nonetheless, worth sampling if you come across it - and I bet it's better on cask.

Poured into snifters. Pours dark brown stream, is black in the glass. Not much head and it dissipates. Smoke and malt on the nose. I expected sweet and heavy, but the taste was actually dry and smoky. Grainy malt far outweighs any treacle flavor. Smoky finish. Very complex flavors -- lots going on. Bright, effervescent acidity (again, unexpected). I like it for what it is, but expected something heavier, stouter. It is actually more ale-y than that.
