Tasted by half-pint at the Evening Star, Brighton. Served by a handpump w/o a sparkler.
A: pours a dark, but transparent and clear, brown hue, with some ruby shades; the foam is negligible, but compensated by the elegant colour and settled presentation.
S: some dark malts and brown sugar upfront, added with lightly-scented fruity hops; slightly lacking an overall balance, and rather simplistic; but by no means unpleasant.
T: mildly sweet brown malts and a lightly plumy sour fruits as well as dried longan-fruitsÂ… hop bitterness catches up fast and lends some length and depth to the overall fruity-malty theme; dryish, chewy, and mildly bitter in the end, with a sound hoppy aftertaste.
M&D: medium-bodied for a Dark Mild, benefiting from a twang of soft fizziness, showing the freshness of this cask; overall, this is a smooth and easy-drinking Mild with a good body of hops to make an impact on the palate. Not bad.
