exceptional porter has a blackish red colour with two fingers thick head. Smells roasted yeast, malt and caramel. Taste starts with dark chocolade and caramel, ends with malt. well balanced tastes.

Served at cellar temperature from 500ml bottle into pint mug.
L) Very dark reddish-brown / Black, opaque. Started with a fluffy off-white head that disappeared quickly.
S) Dark malt with hints of liquorice and coffee.
T) Subtlish burnt malt, hints of coffee bitterness. On the bitter end of the porter style, which gives it a bit of a distinctive edge.
F) Nicely effervescent, bit of a creamy mouthfeel.
O) A decent porter, seek it out if you are a fan of the style. Bonus points for 500ml bottle.

500ml bottle. Tumbler glass. Enjoyed on apr“12.Deep ruby in color, reddish brown to the light. Tan, large bubbled, froth. Thin crown with some collars left. To the nose roasted malts, dark fruits, yeast, bready notes & floral hops. Roasted malts & sour fruit at first sip, hints of fluid licorice candies & coffee notes. Hops react & liberate a refreshing bitterness all over. Medium body, soft carbonation. Palate is fruity & hoppy with a velvet sensation. Slightly harsh in the middle rounded with slightly astringent finish. Dark fruit on the aftertaste. Well balanced beer: refreshing as a Weizen & flavorful as an Oatmeal Stout but Porter in fact performing as a nice session beer.

Appearance: Very dark brown, verging on black in colour, with a rapidly fading small tan head. Small carbonation, with fine bubbles.
Aroma: Heavy roasted malts on the nose, chocolate, hints of coffee, and a bit of metallic. There is a faint scent of alcohol behind the malts, along with a little dry hops.
Taste: Dark and malty at the front, with roasted notes. There are hints of bitter chocolate and peat, smoked oak chips, and light coffee.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and heavy, with minimal carbonation. Smooth and soft in the palete.
Drinkability: Love this, absolutely love this! Heavy and creamy, with perfectly delicate flavours, making it so incredibly moreish and drinkable. I urge people to keep an eye of for any beer by the Ramsgate Brewery in Kent (UK), and Gadds', and in particular this Dogbolter Porter.

Faithful Dogbolter is a dark porter, with an ABV of 5.6%, that is a beautiful ruby colour and has a slightly beige head which disappeared rather quickly.
I had a slight stuffy nose and couldn't detect much at all when I tried to smell the beer, perhaps a touch roasty, but little beyond that.
Taste wise though this was quite simply lovely, velvety coffee laced with milk chocolate - like a Galaxy bar from when I was a kid. Like the No. 3, the bitterness of this beer is held in balance with sweet smoothness of the finish.
A really lovely beer.

Another one from Gadd's. Got this at the Bierkoning in Amsterdam.
From a bottle into a Pint Glass
APPEARANCE: A deep mahogany type brown and quite clear. A big fluffy tan head with good retention looks quite nice. Some nice lacing is left and the head is very persistent. A little more carbonation evident than average. Good looking pint.
SMELL: Roasted malt with some dark fruit undertones. Decent, but nothing special.
TASTE: Again, roasted malt and some dark fruit. A slight smoky component in the short lived aftertaste. Unfortunately kind of simple and underwhelming. Not nearly as tasty as the oyster stout, relatively speaking. A bit of a let down.
PALATE: Medium-thin body with a decent but not inappropriate amount of carbonation. Finishes smooth and easy, with no bite, and relatively dry. Not bad here.
OVERALL: A nice drink that is certainly drinkable, but not something worth seeking out. Given how good their Oyster Stout was, I had hoped for a bit more from this one. Still a decent choice, however.
