Strong in flavour. Lots of coffee and almost petrol-like. Very roasty indeed. Also a hint of liquorice. One to have again.

Bought from the brewery, it should be still fresh.
Brown reddish color with the biggest mushroom beige head I have encountered and leaving an equally incredible scattered curtain of laces. Its head won’t vanish for a whole hour degustation.
Nice malty aroma with notes of coffee, cocoa powder, raspberries and roasted nuts.
Nutty flavor with notes of licorice, English earthy and tangy citrus hops, cocoa, raspberries, yeast and homemade coffee. Dry aftertaste with a pleasant bitterness and a roasted feeling.
Deceiving light to medium body with a lively carbonation.
What a positive surprise, this is a tasty Mild, but not mild at all. John, keep breeding and producing great beers named after your siblings. Best in its style I have had so far.

500ml bottle conditioned: shared with my father on Christmas Eve 2012.
Dark ruby red body with a good solid head of tan coloured foam on both half pint glasses.
Malty molasses rule the nose and taste: you can choose the flavours from caramel to toffee via chocolate and coffee with some peat bog notes thrown in for good measure. Interesting and a fine Mild to boot. The alcohol level is high for a Mild, which might have helped with the body depth and richness of flavours.

wow, a really interesting brew - haven't had many milds and recently learned about what goes into one (errrr...rather what doesnt go into one - hops!)
anyway...this beer is really nice - pours dark brown with a bit of a head (cask) and some beautiful lacing
nose is all coffee and cocoa without being heavy, some smoky woody notes in there as well.
taste maintaines that same character, very balance without overpowering the sweet/heavy-o-meter - more coffee, cocoa and some roasted pecans with just a hint of dark dried fruit
gets a great drinkability score as it is refreshing and easy to drink...not sticky, heavy or boozy at all (some british 5.5% + beers can taste a bit of alcohol!) seems to me to be a great example of the style

This ale was first brewed to celebrate the birth of the brewer's third child, a girl called Martha. He brewed this ale as a tonic for his wife who liked a drop of the dark stuff when feeding Martha in the evening. Bottle, RBESG 2005 Grand Tasting. Dark reddish brown colour. Fine malty aroma with strong notes of oak and woodwork. Hints of tar. Oaky flavour with notes of tar and smoke. Low bitterness, fairly dry. A good strong mild!
