"Our 2026 Maibock version is a special collaboration with HofbrÀuhaus Pittsburgh. We teamed up to create a perfectly balanced springtime brew that has a lightly sweet malt base and fruity hop notes of melon, lemon, and hints of strawberry. Prost!"
Pours a pretty mahogany with ruby highlights with a slightly off white head. A little dark for a Maibock, but a good looking beer, none-the-less.
Nose of sweet malts.
Mouthfeel is medium with limited carbonated influence.
Malty in the beginning of the palate that gives way to a certain slickness that makes me frown. The end is slightly bitter with a butterscotch undertone. Not pleased about it.
Truth be told, I don't know if it's the nuevo hops that they used in this beer, but I was VERY surprised to detect what I perceive as diacetyl in this beer. ESPECIALLY seeing as it is a collaboration with Hofbrauhaus. It is low enough that it isn't completely unenjoyable, but I'd like to see a mass spec. on this beer to see where the VDKs are. I'd be surprised to find out they were below threshold.
