Cask. Sparkler used. Darkest auburn. Thin creamy head which drags down the glass.
A sweet hedgerow fruit aroma with lightly toasted bread.
A mild treacle flavour with a touch of liquorice. Sweet at the front and then lightly bitter.
A soft cask conditioned feel. Very smooth.
A very pleasant English red ale.

L- Very deep chestnut brown with a ruby glint if held up close to a halogen bulb. Clear, pours with 5mm fine-bubble pale tan head. Bottle clean => filtered beer. Head holds well and forms lacing down the side of the pint pot.
S- Mild, just some toasty grains.
T- Trad ale profile, appropriate trad hopping levels giving just enough/a touch of hoppy zing on the palate. There is a roasty edge in it too, but with a subtle hint of smoke which I notice now and again. The front lable refers to 'Smooth fruity red ale' - I can't say I pick up a fruity element.
F- Refreshing, surprisingly so for a beer this dark. It's trad in style, with a slightly darker/hoppier side to it. It's well carbonated in the mouth. I reckon this is a year-rounder, it'd work as well in summer (refreshing) as winter (punchier flavour).
O- I don't register anything out of place or balance to note, I like it, esp. considering it delivers all of this on the foundation of a modest 4.4% ABV. Of a more trad style and all the better for it.
500ml bottle BB: 28/Oct/2020. Bought from the Co-Op shop in Norwich station/Norfolk.
ps. Review written before reading the previous reviews below, happy to see I'm not going mad finding smoke in this!

On cask at Cove and Kilcreggan Ale Festival. Very dark red (tawny?) colour; caramel to toffee nose; soft, slightly resinous feel yet well carbonated; slightly smoky then cheesy before slight bitterness to finish; excellent.

On cask at the Brewery tap in Peterborough.
A: Pours out a reddish colour with an off-white head.
T: Smokey with a biscuity malt backbone. The website describes American hops but I can't taste any. Little to no hop character whatsover.
O: Pretty good if not one-dimenstional. It's got to be the smokiest bitter I've ever had.
