A 330ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2014. Acquired recently from Tesco; it came in a tin and was sitting on the sale shelf. Today isn't Father's day but never mind....
Poured into a straight pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A hazy orange-amber colour with plenty of floating sediment and intense carbonation. Forms a massive head of creamy off-white foam that resembles a meringue; this eventually reduces to a thick surface layer. Nice lacing. Aroma of fruity ale yeast, earthiness, stewed hops and mild caramel malt. Very dry and wanting for balance.
Tastes of earthy yeast and faint malt with a bone-dry finish. Notes of fruity ale yeast, earthiness, stewed hops, subtle caramel malt and faint white pepper. Highly attenuated, followed by a restrained bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and very dry, with prickly carbonation and decent body. Pretty astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of powdery, earthy yeast.
Meh - very yeasty. I get the impression it has spent too long developing in the bottle. Looks OKish, with lively carbonation and a huge foamy head. The aroma and flavour are dominated by dry yeast and weak malt. Uninspiring body. Just a bit bland and one-dimensional; a fresh bottle may be better stuff. No need to seek it out.
