Brewed exclusively for their Pro / Am entry into the 2007 GABF. Fortunately, I crawled into the brewery while this beer is available. The beer has a firm Witbier base, but with tons of other character to acheive the 'Grand Cru' status. A soft pilsner malt aroma comes with mellow spiciness, lofty citrus, twangy alcohols, and a touch of nectar sweetness. The flavors confirm many of the promises made by the aromas, and with extra umph on the honey, spicy, alcohols. Moderately hopped for extra earthy flavors, balanced bittering, and finishes dry. The body waivers from the Witbier style, but reinforms the notion of the Grand Cru with a texture more likely found in a Belgian Strong Pale. Lots of fruit, spices, and esters chased by warming alcohols well into the finish. A nicely formed recipe and solidly brewed beer.
