while my sister was in ellciottville doing a little skiing i had here pick me up a growler from the brewery. when she was going through the tap list, i thought this, "16" sounded intriging. from the brewery "a strong anniversary ale aged for 3 months with toasted american oak chips"
growler a little above fridge temp poured into bulb style glass. filled 24 hours ago.
pours out a very clear amber, light brown color, some slight reddish hues with a thin layer of white head that faded within 5 minutes or so to absolutly nothing, maybe a slight ring on the edges. small spotty lace thats gone with the head. i like the color, but the lack of a head is disappointing.
a very sweet, fruity aroma. some belgian yeast is evident. pear, apple, bubblegum, bannana, a bit of flouride and solvent alcohol. maybe some wine like characteristics. very little if any oak qualities in the aroma.
again, sweet and fruity with some belgian yeast qualities. sweet, candied malts, apple, pear, grapey wine like qualities. some woody oak is present, but doesnt really compliment the beer much. a little solvent alcohol as it warms.
medium to heavy in body, very light on the carbonation. a bit syrupy. dry finish.
not super drinkable, i siphoned half the growler into a 22oz bottle for another day and the other half still isnt an easy kill.
i feel as though this beer as well as a few others ive gotten growlers of from the brewery would be better if maybe they filled there growlers from the bottom up or if this was on tap. this beer seemed flat and didnt pour out nice.
