I've tried Walkabout's beers once or twice, but given their scarcity in Portland this is really my first time simultaneously sipping and tapping on the iPod. The Wallaby continues a decidedly 'Down Under' theme to their naming norms. This is a 10 oz. pour at Bailey's Taproom.
A: Shiny golden with the slightest copper undertone. Terrific frothy head, at least a finger in a small-ish glass, holding in wide sheets of lace. Plenty of racy bubbles!
S: Hmmm...dusty and dry wheat/straw. Papery (not 'peppery') maltiness. Moderate strength.
T: Veiled citrus zest tucked beneath a doughy yeast roll. A good little pepper kick, emphasis on 'little', with a floral/herb honey. Yeast continues to roll, a lengthy finish.
M: Creamy carbonation and light/medium-bodied. A bit sticky in the finish, a heavier malt that lessens the 'refreshing' qualities. Holding along with those gummier starches is a nice spiced dryness.
D: A good, lively version of a likeable/'sessionable' style. A middle-of-the-pack witbier, certainly no slouch but nothing to get overly excited about. Yeah, I'd have it again. Or I wouldn't. Not a big deal either way...
