So I like Czech lagers, so I didn't hesitate to order one of these. Wow was I surprised when it arrived. I want to stress that this is not advertised as a czech dark lager.
Brown color beer arrives. Auburn when held up to the light. Oh maybe its a czech dark lager I thought. Not much head on it. The aroma is muted, I'm not getting anything dark lager/schwarzbier like in the aroma hop nor malt wise. What is even going on here?
The taste displays a slight feel of brown and chocolate malt alongside 2 row. 1/3" off white head. Hopping is super light and not distinct. Not really sure what I'm doing here, it doesn't have an off flavor, but the heavier hopping and light body that are hallmarks of style aren't really here. I'm getting like a brown/amber ale feel more than anything. Doesn't seem like a lager yeast. The mouthfeel is nice and not as heavy as the appearance, carbonation in order.
Definitely was not the beer going in that I expected when ordered. No off flavors, just an absent yeast, hopping and appearance from the norm.
